Open-Source Music Dataset Eliminates Copyright Woes

Global Copyright Exchange (GCX) by Rightsify offers more than one hundred years of copyright-cleared music in a wide range of genres. Now the company is giving high-quality, licensed music data to artificial intelligence (AI) developers for free from its carefully curated, open-source dataset. Reportedly, this will allow everyone to train music models without worries about copyrights. The dataset covers nearly every musical genre and instrument from around the world, one of which includes 15k tracks, stems, chords, and detailed metadata parameters for every track.

As per the company, many AI music datasets run the risk of false labeling as creative commons or they come from material under copyright. GCX’s copyright-free dataset promises to solve this problem. GCX founder and CEO Alex Bestall explains, “Music AI won’t progress if researchers and developers can’t get good datasets that don’t hide any copyright pitfalls.”

The GCX dataset will be available on all major cloud and dataset services under an MIT license, which will allow limited commercial use for companies or services. For deeper insights and revelations, visit the Global Copyright Exchange datasets webpage.
